1.Overview

Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a Changin’” released on March 8, 1965. Many people have made their own interpretations of this classic single by Bob Dylan. But I think that this song is about change in society, and how some accept it and some deny it. I say this because the song was produced in a very important period for America, when African Americans were demanding civil rights. . This song (when released) soon became the anthem for the movement that demanded change

 

2.The Song

“For the loser now will be later to win For the times they are a-changin’”, I selected this portion because I think that it explains that the african american minority will soon rise up. These lyrics are very effective for promoting hope into the people of that generation, and many generations to come.

 

3.Relevance

The problem of civil rights is a massive one and the struggle to gain equality still exists in today's world. Just about every country in the world has some proof of a violation of civil rights. Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places. Around this time John F. Kennedy was assassinated and this really drove the message even further for people to understand. The Vietnam war was also in full effect and that made people want a change too. I selected this song because I like the country/folk style that Dylan helped to make popular. His song has a powerful message about change, and it can be used in anytime, anywhere.
