Stoichiometry
Unit Overview:
For students to learn the process and understand stoichiometry. They will understand how mole ratio relates to chemical equations. The students will be able to balance a chemical equation and then use the balanced equations to find amounts of certain chemical compounds.
Personal Achievement:
I achieved the knowledge chemical equations. I also learnt to balance chemical equations and then use the balanced equations to find amounts of certain chemical compounds.
Enduring Understanding:
Chemical formulas contain chemical symbols showing the elements compounds and their proportions. Sometimes, they even show the structure of the compound.
For example, 2H3+O2 à 2H3O
The two in front of both hydrogens would be the coefficients, and both the 3 and 2 are called subscripts. The one on the left is called the reactants and the right is the products. This equation also has a total of 16 molecules altogether.
Strengths:
-
Applies the law of conservation of mass when balancing a chemical equation
I understand this law pretty well, and because of this, I can balance equations properly.
Areas for Improvement:
-
Applies mathematical representations to stoichiometry
I’m really bad at anything that has to do with math, and this was no exception. I had to memorize equations and techniques of how to solve mole ratios and things like that. It wasn’t as easy as I thought It would be.
