Interwar Period Reflection
Unit Overview:
This unit carries on from the previous unit on the causes and effects of WWI to examine important events and world climate leading up to WWII. Students will participate in independent reading, note-taking, watching documentary, performing a simulation, drawing for understanding, developing a mind map, and writing an open-book test.
Personal Unit Overview: What did you achieve this unit?
I learned about the period after world war one and before world war two. I learned how the depressing environment led to the rise of fascist dictators such as Hitler and Mussolini. I also learnt how the stock market crash of 1929 help fuel the already tense situation in Europe.
Enduring Understandings: What caused the rise of dictators like Hitler and Mussolini?
The rise of dictators like Hitler and Mussolini could be caused by the environment of Europe at the time. They both took advantage of the failing democracies and the sky-high unemployment rate. The two really came into power when the 1929 stock crash happened, creating the Great Depression. Hitler rose to power by vowing that he would break the Versailles Treaty, to which he blamed the country's problem on. Mussolini on the other hand gradually rose to power by controlling the press, creating sensational, but mostly false stories that appealed the masses.
